Why mass protests erupted in Iran amid currency collapse

Protesters took to the streets in Iran on December 28 and 29 over the country’s collapse of the national currency and economic crisis. The demonstrators were heard chanting ‘azadi and ‘death to the dictator’, as traders shut shops in Tehran over the Iranian rial plunging to new record lows against the US dollar. The agitation has further increased pressure on the Iranian government
